Lacrimosa’s third album, Satura (1993), caught the band is some sort of transitional period, moving a little further from their classical roots and more towards their faster-moving poppier sounds that would become their trademark later on. The album delivers depression and meaning without sounding melodramatic, shying away from the sound on Lacrimosa’s earlier albums and its easy to see how this could progress into the wonderful album Inferno, that would be released two years later. However Satura is still slow and brooding and sometimes hard to digest. Probably one of Lacrimosa’s more challenging albums to listen to. Fans of Fassade or Echos or Lichtgestaldt may be disappointed by this because it is definitely less accessible. But then there are some really strong songs on here like Flamme Im Wind and so on. So Satura isnt the first album you should get by this band but if youre already familiar and in love with Lacrimosa then you need this one as well.
