Greater Art is both greater art as well as higher art and its really something different. The album is heavier than many of the other Lake Of Tears albums. Although there are influences from other Swedish bands of the time, such as Tiamat, or even death metal elements, what is certain is that their doom metal brought to the fore something new, fresh and completely innovative. Call it whatever you want. Is it pure doom metal? Or does it have enough death metal influences to be called death metal? Is it gothic metal? Well maybe yes on all questions but at the same time it sounds a bit different to be labelled as just one of the above genres. But who really cares? Maybe the title says it all, its Greater Art.
