Very rare Swedish pressed 1958 EP
One of the top baritone saxophonists of all time and a giant of European jazz, Lars Gullin played in local big bands in the late 40s and was in Arne Domnerus sextet (1951-1953), but is best known for his own small-group recordings. This single features songs recorded in Stockholm on the 11th and 16th of April 1958 together with Jan Allan, Rune Gustafsson, Claes Lindroth and Sune Spångberg. This was the most productive period in Gullin’s life, as he recorded frequently between 1951-1960, with Danny’s Dream being his most famous composition. He also played with such touring Americans as Lee Konitz (a major influence), James Moody, Clifford Brown, Zoot Sims, and Chet Baker. An excessive drug use made his career way to short. He recorded just a bit during 1964-1965 and made only one later session and that was in 1973.
