Description
Double album on black vinyls with gatefold cover
Last In Line was formed by Vivian Campbell (guitar), Jimmy Bain (bass), Vinny Appice (drums), Claude Schnell (keyboards) and Andrew Freeman (vocals) in 2012. With the exception of Freeman, all the members had been part of Dio and the reunion was brought about by Campbell’s desire to revisit that band’s material, which he has not played since an acrimonious split from the band in 1986. Eventually, the band decided to focus on original material instead of just revisiting the past. In 2015, as the band was preparing material for a new album, they parted ways with Schnell, deciding, instead to move forward as a guitar-driven four-piece band. The group’s debut album, Heavy Crown was released in 2016. Shortly before the album’s release, Jimmy Bain passed away and the band continued with bassist Phil Soussan (ex-Ozzy Osbourne). Their second album, II, was released in 2019. Anyone that heard Heavy Crown should get this one as well. Each one of these men are outstanding musicians individually and they understand how to make great heavy metal music and they make it with some originality and not just a tribute to their past. We all know how angry Vinnnie Appice can sound on drums and its great to hear Vivian Campbell playing guitar like he used to do with Sweet Savage and Dio. Phil Soussan is a fine replacement for the great Jimmy Bain and ex Lynch Mob vocalist Andrew Freeman handles multiple styles awesomely. Fans of hard driven music performed by legends need this one.
