Out On Bail – 1984
Sometimes considered to be America’s answer to Deep Purple, Legs Diamond’s finely crafted songs have been long admired by many connoisseurs of melodic US hard rock. After having released three albums in the late 70s (among which the semi-classic “A Diamond Is A Hard Rock” from 1977), American band Legs Diamond split because they couldn’t find a new label. However, in 1984 they came up for air again with a fresh comeback album, called “Out On Bail”, featuring a line-up that consisted of three old members (Rick Sandford, Jeff Poole and Michael Prince) and two new ones (Mike Christie and Jim May, who replaced Michael Diamond and Roger Romeo respectively). Although synthesized drums were used on “Out On Bail” was met with considerable critical acclaim, featuring such unforgettable tracks as “Out On Bail”, “Walkaway” and “Find It Out The Hard Way”.
Land Of The Gun – 1985
This was the follow up to the classic Out On Bail album, released a year later than the mentioned album. This album followed in the departure of drummer Jeff Poole. Replaced with Dusty Watson formely of Lita Fords band, this album is a melodic rock masterpiece and covers a lot of styles whilst retaining Legs identity throughout. Every track is a winner, from the opener My Own Game with it’s pulsating riff and huge rhythm section, through the ultra melodic Deep Purple influenced Steal A Heart to the hard and heavy Rock Doktor. Fans of the band, and melodic hard rock lovers everywhere will lap this up. Special mention must go the absolutely awesome song Turn To Stone which is just one of the best songs the band ever recorded. The whole album is full of fantastic musicianship, Jim May’s guitar work smokes, to Mike Prince’s brilliant keys and God like vocals of Rick Sanford, this album is absolutely essential.
