If you like a slab of Ac/dc with polka accordion rhythms? Yes that’ll be “Drill A Hole”. Some Mexican styled acoustic guitar sir? Would you like some Power Pop Punk with that? You would? Excellent, I’ll put you down for an “I Kill The Dog”. Anybody else? Hmmmm…a dash of the James Bond theme with an Ennio Morricone spaghetti western soundtrack – and a 70’s cop show theme with some crazy moog? So that’s a “Mule” and “Frijoles Y Lager”. What’s that sir? What goes into making the “Gasolina” or the house special “Buena Vodka Social Club”? Well the first is another little kick of accordion based shenanigans, but this time with a shot of Western and some pumping brass, while the “Buena” itself is an early Beastie Boys riff that rolls around the tongue leaving a sleaze rock flavour and a chorus that Bon Jovi would have been oh so proud to ooh their way through. For the ladies? Well could I suggest the bouncy bass line and super cool Cock Rock vocals of “All We Need Is Love”, the fruity little Cossack meets Space Rock and Tommy Shaw of Styx like vocals of “Machine Gun Blues”, or the manic Hanoi Rocks R&R stomp of “Rock N Roll Show”? And finally? Some surfer dude, ala the Beach Boys rock ‘n’ roll, with a few nods to classic Beatles? Can I point you in the direction of “Gimme Your Sushi”? So there are no takers for zing of Frank Zappa being played by Warrant, while going through a fuzzbox? You’d be missing out not to try it…. What’s it called? Well that will be the wonderful advice of “Wash Your Ass”! I’ll bring a pitcher of that for you all to share! So that’s everybody made their choice? OK then I’ll get that brought over to your table by thirteen mad Finnish musicians and singers with horizontal quiffs about three feet long, wearing curly leather clown shoes, biker jackets and skeleton outfits. In any other location this would all be utter madness, but in the bizarre confines of the Buena Vodka Social Club and presented by those Leningrad Cowboys, it all makes utter, twisted brilliant sense, in a way that doesn’t actually seem possible until you sample the delights on the varied, eclectic and of course slightly loopy menu. Mad, bad and dangerous to know? Indeed. Crazy, seductive and intoxicating to sample? Definitely! Where do I sign up for a membership to this club?
