Description

While some death metal bands constantly try to redefine their music with various (and often completely unnecessary) stylistic experiments, Malevolent Creation have always been true to the old-school and brutal ways of pure metal annihilation. In 2007 original vocalist Bret Hoffman returned to Malevolent Creation for the Doomsday X album. With Hoffman back, the band went through the old Malevolent archives and found this live recording made at The Whisky A Go Go back in 1999 with the band’s original line-up of Hoffman, guitarists Rob Barrett and Phil Fasciana, bassist Gordy Simms and drummer Dave Culross. Malevolent Creation was touring in support of 1998’s The Fine Art Of Murder when this show was recorded, and the set list features five tracks from that album. Their back catalogue is also well represented, as they play songs from 1991’s The Ten Commandments, 1992’s Retribution, 1995’s Eternal and 1996’s Joe Black. The sound quality on the album is decent. Live death metal shows don’t usually have crisp, crystal clear sound, and you wouldn’t want that anyway. Live At The Whisky A Go Go is raw and sometimes a little muddy, but it captures the power and intensity of Malevolent Creation very well.
