Joey DeMaio was working as a bass tech / pyrotechnic for Black Sabbath when he met with guitarist Ross the Boss, playing for a group called Shakin Street, a Black Sabbath support band. They later recruited Eric Adams for vocals and Donny Hamzik for the drums, to create Manowar, a band with an unusual epic sound. Manowar recorded Battle Hymns, their debut album, and album that after more than twenty years still counts as one among the best that Manowar have ever done. Just listen to the opening riff of Metal Daze, then the vocals and the bass and drums dropping in. If you don’t find Shell Shock, Manowar, the Orson Welles narrated epic Dark Avenger and the awesome title track, Battle Hymns inspirational and up lifting then just why are you a metal fan?
