Master Boot Record (MBR) is a chiptune- and classical-influenced avant-synth-metal project based out of Rome, Italy. Booting up in 2016, the group’s ever-growing classic software- and video game-influenced discography has become known for housing cryptic puzzles and messages. The project stemmed from its unknown creator’s work on the soundtrack to the cyberpunk point-and-click adventure game Virtuaverse, which was created by their development team Theta Division. MBR’s music has been getting more aggressive and raw with each release and that definitely continues here on the 2018 release, Direct Memory Access. Many fans were first concerned when they heard that the band were about to ad vocals and thought that the chip voice of MBR would be drowned out by loud human noises. But that isnt the case instead the vocals ad so much emotion to the formula that the fans love. The language is a proprietary language called OX that was created by vocalist Öxxö Xöö from the avant-metal duo Igorrr and Ricinn. In keeping with the retro-cyberpunk theme, all of MBR’s albums are available as 5.25″ Floppy Disk Vinyls.
