The band describe their 2014 album like this: An imaginary old wanderer (vagus vetus) journeys through an unfamiliar labyrinth and there’s nothing good waiting for him. Disgusted with progress and modernity of all kinds, he enjoys listening to aeolian harps and sounds of postmortal flatulence. He finds his consolation in hedonic experiences of natural origin. The phraseology of extreme metal, though already pitiful and worn-out, is good enough to express the urgency of these topics. The band has also said in interviews that the phraseology of extreme metal is pitiful and worn-out. Well the band might be without hopes for the extreme metal scene, but they don’t really show this on this album. The atmosphere feels excellent. I personally love how the Czech language sounds when singing. The vocals are those that you are familiar with (if you’re already a fan), but I’ll explain, they’re a very particular black metal vocals, very different. But, also, the album is filled with those unique clean vocals that I personally love to death, you need to listen to them, there’s no way to explain how they sound. The guitar work is also another aspect that I wanted to talk about, they are very pleasing. There are also many offbeat/ distinctive musical elements as well in the songs which turn Vagus Vetus into an even more uncommon album. The whole album is very diverse and pleasant, but it’s not for everyone. I think that some might feel that this album feels a bit mechanical, if you get what I mean. I admit that I can’t explain this better, but, in my humble opinion, I wouldn’t agree. I think that this album is superb and filled with emotions.
