By late 1995 Hellhammer had decided to reform Mayhem with the help of new guitarist Rune Eriksen (aka Blasphemer) and two previous Mayhem members – Maniac and Necrobutcher. The first release of this new line-up was a 1997 EP titled Wolf’s Lair Abyss, and was followed by some live European shows. The first live show since the classic Leipzig show in November 1990 took place in Bischofswerda in Germany on the 21st of June 1997 and was captured on vhs and later also on The Return album. If you love old school black metal which you probably do if you adore early Mayhem then this is a top rated release. The guitars are barely audible and the drums sounds like a popcorn machine popping in the background in full speed. Maniac does what Maniac does best. Sounds insane or drunk as hell. A classic release
