Description
Black vinyl with gatefold cover
I guess I live into another dimension
Smoking pot till my time arrives
I feel so empty when I look for affection
Just let me trip till my eyes shut down…
My path just crumbles as I step on my feet babe
Sometimes I feel that I can’t think right
My last and only words are written on this paper
Just roll a blunt with it and smoke it jesus chryst…
The Argentina band Mephistofeles describe themselves as a proto doom/heavy psych rock act. The two tracks La Bimba Di Satana and Tombstone Boogie feels like a couple of lost hippie tracks. It’s a shame that these two tracks didnt make it onto the bands third album, Satan Sex Ceremonies. Both pieces would have worked even better in the context of the record and, conversely, would have expanded it even more variably. These feels like a strange and pleasant twist to the common hippie anti-war songs. Two hymns to D-O-P-E. What a shame to waste an opportunity of listening to this stoned. The instrumental La Bimba Di Satana wanders with the guitar played diffusely off the track and mystical percussion as a potential intermezzo to the Spaghetti Western score in a nebulous drug trance, meandering and hypnotic, especially beguiling through the hinted choirs at the back. And Tombstone Boogie continues to strum in weird LoFi, flippantly indulges in a nonchalant substance singalong with pop approaches with his typical occult voice distorted according to genre patterns, settles in quite casually as a catchy tune and makes it clear once again that Mephistofeles don’t do anything differently than so many slipstream epigones – but a little something is simply better and more engaging than some role models.
