In the autumn of 1984 Mercyful Fate was the hottest cult band in America. Thousands of fans were anxious to get a chance to see them live. In October of 1984 they were given that amazing chance. American promoters were finally convinced to book the band for an American tour. The initial plan was to do 15 shows in 3 weeks, but as ticket sales far surpassed expectations, the tour was extended another 19 dates. Opening night was in Portland, Oregon at Starry Nights on October 20th, and the last date was in Providence, Rhode Island on December 16th. Further dates in Norfalk and Pittsburg were cancelled as local promoters were pressured by religious groups to ban the group from performing. The reputation of Mercyful Fate had preceded them. The band even landed on the front cover of the biggest news papers in America, USA Today and The Globe. They picked up on the Satanic angle. Stating in a headline Satanic rockers threaten our kids. Mercyful Fate toured together with Exciter and just to entered the venue back in 1984 was pure heaven. The merchandise stall was loaded with killer shirts. This stuff was really hard to find back then, even at music stores. Not a lot of retailers were interested in carrying t-shirts with slogans like Violence And Force on them. This limited album was recorded at the Rainbow Music Hall in Denver on the 28th of October 1984. When Exciter took to the stage the crowd went completely berserk. They were so loud and so fast and guitarist John Ricci and bassist Allan Johnson were covered in leather and spikes. Drummer/vocalist Dan Beehler had a giant drum kit and a gooseneck mic stand angled down so he could scream into it. When he wasn’t singing he was headbangning. Pounding Metal, Heavy Metal Maniac and some other classics were played. Mercyful Fate was up next and they had an audience that included a lot of dudes who were pretending to be Satanists and they loved King Diamonds banter in between the songs. King was waving his bone mic stand and doing his unique falsetto voice and the band were tight. This was just one of many successful shows during this US tour. Ofcourse there were some minor upsets but overall this was the highlight of the bands career so far.
