Hold My Breath As I Wish For Death….

Original European vhs PAL release

Metallica was formed back in 1981 and have spent over four decades evolving without losing their identity. They have (in 2025) sold over 125 million albums and helped define a genre. Their loyal fan based wasnt something that came over night with the help of a promo video or a single. No the band refused for several years to release a video and grew for the simple reason that they made amazing music and toured heavily all over the world. In 1988 MTV was the biggest thing the music world had. If you could get your video aired on MTV you would reach millions of kids. Their were tons of videos being made for every new album that came out most of them featuring nice looking boys and even better looking girls. However when Metallica finally gave in for the idea to make a video they had a concept and a track that would be suitable. The track chosen was One, an anti-war tune based on Dalton Trumbo’s anti-war novel Johnny Got His Gun. Combining black and white footage of themselves playing with clips from the film Johnny Got His Gun, just captures the spirit of the song perfectly. I mean imagine just being unable to feel anything and be left with no limbs, yet your still alive…that is more creepy and terrifying than all the devils, demons, hellfire, and brimstone written for a song put together. Here we see Metallica in their prime, back when they were the greatest heavy metal band in existence. Definitely not a cheery video, but a great piece of art and it still ranks as one of the best promo videos every made. If you have any kind of anti-war agenda, the video is extremely relevant. On this video single you have the original video, a jammin version and an interview with Lars Ulrich that actually is rather insightful. A must have for any heavy metal fan
