At the time people were arguing if Master Of Puppets was Metallica’s best album to date. But throughout history it has become one of the milestones among heavy metal albums. It was the album that gained the band thousands of new fans and it was a step up for the band. The management had booked the band as support act to Ozzy Osbourne on his The Ultimate Sin tour which took Metallica through North America between March and June of 1986. When that tour had ended the impressive sales of Master Of Puppets made it possible for the band to do headlining shows starting in July that year a tour that would unfortunately go into hiatus after the fatal accident in Sweden in September of 1986 when bass player Cliff Burton lost his life. After finding a new bass player the band went on the road again to do the rescheduled dates. This double album was recorded one of those dates, taking place at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre in Winnipeg, Canada on the 13th of December 1986. With three albums to chose from that all are bona fide classics an essential for any heavy metal collector it of course offers a great set list. With a new bass player the band were eager to make their mark. Newer songs mingled with the old to form a faultless set. Youth, testosterone, the tragic loss of a friend, anger over the pussy music scene at the time, cocaine and alcohol or whatever it could have been that at the time showed a band that had an amazing drive to conquer the world and the also had the ultimate thrash metal album to back it up. This was a band at the height of their proverbial powers and seemingly unstoppable. Needless to say it was a glorious show.
