I’m beginning to wonder where the music business is heading to; on one hand we have a variety of bands that follow their own path, trying to create new trails while calling themselves original (or avant-garde). But on the other hand we still come across old school oriented bands that manage to create decent efforts copying riffs and signatures taken from the past. The term ‘old school’ superbly describes what Mordhell are – their approach to music is to rock out the most primitive sound without using too much of their own creativity. Mordhell’s black metal is as idle as the Sahara desert. There is not a single thing that hasn’t been used by other (mostly better) bands doing similar shit in this genre – Darkthrone, Khold, Tsjuder, Carpathian Forest, and Gorgoroth to name just a few. However, if you thought that said bands play simple music, you haven’t heard Mordhell yet. The majority of the 8 tracks on ‘Cut Yourself And Die’ are standard raw black metal with a cellar production and clear-cut message. ‘Bloody Fucker of Maria the Whore’, ‘Fucking Christian Whore’, ‘Dead Woman Fucker’ – that should give you a little clue as to the lyrical content of this album.
