An original member of black metal legends Emperor, Mortiis followed with several solo releases focusing on ambient soundscapes, before his present incarnation. Infamous for his use of prosthetic make-up to give himself Touran inhuman appearance, Mortiis is never seen without his mask, further adding to the myths that surround him. The Grudge continues to showcase the electro-industrial sound pioneered on the previous album The Smell Of Rain but its far from a The Smell Of Rain part 2. The Grudge is heavier,alot more aggressive and the vocals are alot more distorted. Whereas The Smell Of Rain left off on a melancholic note (the whole album having a sad,despairing feel to it) The Grudge kicks off on a sharp, hectic note with Broken Skin and carries this feel on throughout the whole album. Like most later Mortiis album its an album you will either love or hate, there is no compromise with Mortiis
