Dr.Feelgood was the fifth studio album by Motley Crue and it was released in September of 1989. It is widely regarded by music critics and fans as being Mötley Crüe’s strongest album, being the first album the band has recorded after their quest for sobriety and rehabilitation in 1989. Today Dr. Feelgood has sold more than 7 million copies in the U.S. alone and in various interviews, members of Motley Crue stated that it was their most solid album from a musical standpoint, and their best album to date, due in no small part to their collective push for sobriety. The album includes such hook-oriented MTV smashes as Kickstart My Heart, the amusing Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) and the title song are infectious and hard to resist and it was also was ranked at #41 on VH1’s 100 Greatest songs of the ’80s. Canadian producer Bob Rock provided the record with a lush, vibrant sound, applying production values which had been lacking from the band’s previous releases. The album had such a thick sound that non other Motley Crue album could reach. Looking back at the recording Rock found the process of working with the band difficult, describing the band as four L.A. badasses who used to drink a bottle of wine and want to kill each other. In order to minimize conflict and allow production of the record to proceed smoothly, Rock had each member play their parts separately. The final result topped the Billboard 200 (North America) chart and it also provided their first Top Ten singles. Unfortunately, the album would be lead singer Vince Neil’s last album with the band. Neil’s departure — and pop-metal’s decline in popularity in the mid-’90s — proved to be severe blows to Motley Crue.
