Motley Crue made their debut on Swedish soil at the Monsters Of Rock Festival in Stockholm back in 1984 and later that winter they were opening up for Iron Maiden on their Swedish dates. This album was recorded at Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden on the 3rd of November 1984 and the band were after their support slot on the Ozzy Osbourne’s Bark At The Moon US tour the hottest of the new breed of heavy metal bands that US had to offer. Going from being a club act to tour with Ozzy in front of 18, 20 thousand people every single night in sold-out arenas expended the band from being this cool new band to exploding stardom. It literally catapulted Motley Crue’s career. But the critics weren’t that impressed; Motley Crue displayed little or no musical talent. When not singing about the joys of sexual or physical conquest, bleached blonde singer Vince Neil, whose stage manner seems to have been lifted in toto from Van Halens David Lee Roth, is shouting a particularly offensive expletive as though he had just learned it before taking the stage. His violent sexist rap, however, is pure Attila The Hun. It shows that heavy metal is a mindless pleasure at its best but bands like Motley Crue epitomize the genres most repulsively childish aspects and are thus mindlessly offensive. Musically, even by headbanger standards, Motley Crue, is execrable and they are here to release hate and even sexist brutality. Take Knock Em Dead Kid for example that asks us to sympathize with a psychotic protagonist brutality and Bastards is another bloody little story that seem to condone violence. And all this is deadly serious. Motley Crues popularity probably means were in trouble. There were young girls in the front rows passing Neil their bras – which he held between his teeth like a conquering Visigoth. But the worst is yet to tome. Rumors have it that a new heavy metal band, Wasp, simulates the bloody slaughter of a bound, half naked girl onstage. So Motley Crue is just the start of more violence to come. Bring on Genghis Khan. So the critics weren’t impressed but even the Iron Maiden fans took this band to their heart and the Powerslave tour moved Motley Crue up to the big league and it was time for the band to do headlining shows. This album gives you a chance to go back in time and experience Motley Crue in one of their most exciting times when everything was happening for the band.
