Description

Limited yellow vinyl single

This single features a cover version of Whiplash by Metallica. Speaking about the cover, drummer Mikkey Dee says: As you know we love Metallica and they love us, and this is one of the songs we liked a lot and covered it back then. The snare, the riffs – all that fit in with Motorhead. Motorhead’s cover of Whiplash won them Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2005, which Mikkey describes as total irony. It’s okay, but it would have meant more if was one of our own songs. On the B-side we have a cover version of Plasmatics Masterplan. Back in 1982 the band flew to Toronto for a recording session with Wendy O.Williams and her group, the Plasmatics, a decision disliked by Fast Eddie Clarke who soon afterwards would be over with Motörhead. Lemmy explained about the session: Eddie was supposed to produce the tracks for us, and unfortunately he had producer Will Reid Dick in tow again. The session was problematic to say the least. Eddie wasn’t playing guitar — he was only working as producer. We were using Wendy’s guitarist’s from the Plasmatics, with me and Phil on bass and drums. Eddie wasn’t acting terribly thrilled with the whole scenario and finally he said he was going out to eat, but we found him in the other room, sulking with Evil Red. Lemmy believes that if Dick had not been there, they could have worked through the problems, but ended up exchanging a few words and Clarke left the studio. Back at the hotel, drummer Phil Philthy Animal Taylor told Lemmy Eddie’s left the band. Clarke himself said, I suppose at that time Motorhead had in fact gone as far as it could. I had not decided to quit. I was forced out by the other guys who for different reasons felt the need for a change. This kind of happened around the Iron Fist album. We had stopped working well together so the demise was inevitable.
