Description

White and red splatter vinyl. Limited 40 copies

Motörhead normally scream out of the blocks when they play live, but in 2011 they had to hit the Sonisphere’s Apollo Stage with the announcement that former guitarist Würzel had died of a heart attack the day before. So the band were back at the Sonisphere festival in Switzerland the year after, and this album captures that show on the 30th of May 2012. Motorhead a metal band who plays blues-rock inspired metal that you could actually follow without being a die-hard metal fan. The crowd instantly perked up. Lemmy seemed to be enjoying himself greatly and comes over as a timeless figure who doesn’t seem to age. Phil Campbell on guitar just looked very cool in a greasy sort of way – eschewing the clichés of the genre as far as physical appearance goes – normal-looking guitars and not much in the way of tattoos. His playing, while frenzied enough for the speed metal idiom, was a lot more interesting than that of most of his colleagues. Their set list felt way to short and by the time it was over it wasn’t remotely dark. But as they finished with Ace of Spades and Overkill who could complain?
