The Monad Of Creation is the long awaited Mournful Congregation’s debut album. Its a juggernaut of extreme doom metal. It is a rock that cannot be moved, so heavy it brings you down. This album is more than a mere collection of 4 titles. It is a story. The first surprise when you listen to the album is the extreme slowness. The secret of this album is a mix of heaviness and slowness, harmonized by deconstructed melodies thickening the air. The guitars are heavy, and along with the bass, create a musical background absolutely sorrowful. Acoustic (classic and folk) guitars are constantly present to coordinate the whole, with deep, melodic arpeggios filling the listener with awe. Yeah, I know, I sound like the usual transcendental bullshit-er, but it really is what you may feel listening this album. Three guitars or more are used, building complex and complete melodies. The riffs in the first song makes you feel like you are surrounded by grey waves, walls of water. The vocals, extremely low death metal growls are just perfect, slow and eternally echoing in silence, flirting with brutal death metal vocals, so low they are. The reverberation of the vocals makes you feel you are surrounded by a unholy congregation of mourning souls, creating a claustrophobic, oppressing atmosphere. The clean vocals are whispered, slowly reminding of the religious silence of a crypt. Well, this can be described as the musical representation of a slow procession to a funeral: deep, dark, sorrowful, but extremely dense with complex melodies. Obviously, this is not to be put into all ears, it is to be jealously kept, only for the congregation to hear. It will be difficult for neophytes to appreciate this fully, but, if you think you’ll like this, you have to get it, because this is an epic, funeral doom masterpiece.
