Remains Of A Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soulï were Mutiilations second album. Originally the first 5 tracks record were planned to be released on Colombias Warmaster label in 1993 under the name Evil (The Gestalt Of Abomination) but that never happened. This album is recorded before Vampires Of The Imperial Blood and consists of the Evil (The Gestalt Of Abomination) album and two tracks that were recorded in 1996. The album kicks off with Suffer The Gestalt. The track starts with some slow drumming and Mehynach moaning with some guitar noise on the background which gives a very good first impression of the album namely that this is very eerie and sick album. Everyone knows that Slayer is the kings of false guitar solos. Well, with this track Meynach proves in fact he can do way, way worse. To The Memory Of The Dark Countess starts off with complete noise that some will describe as a riff. Meyhnach is screaming his lungs out and half the time I wonder if he actually had lyrics and isnt randomly yelling around. Is this what black metal is supposed to sound like? Black metal is not about sweet melodies, a crystal clear production and perfect compositions. Hell… This album is just pure raw and primitive madness and the original title of the album Evil fits the album perfectly because this album simply is one of the most evil and sick ones ever to be unleashed into the black metal scene. Its extremely primitive and harsh to the bone and Meynach has done a very good job doing so. So Mutiilation proves with this album that you dont need skills to create a black metal album. This album is both ugly and rotten as hell and that really is one of the charming things about it. For black metal fanatics this is the diamond on the rough and one of the better albums in the genre. For the more casual, the objective or perhaps modern black metal listener this album is complete and utter garbage. Personally I am both and sometimes I do really enjoy this album. The other times there is this weird voice in the back of my head that says to throw this album away. The only question you have to ask yourself is: who are you?
