The Mystic Healer album is made up of demos and new recordings by keyboard player and songwriter Mark Mangold (Touch, Drive She Said, American Tears and Michael Bolton) and singer Todd Googins. This is melodic AOR in the vein of Drive She Said which isnt really that surprising as most of the material that Mangold writes are poppy and melodic. He is a fantastic AOR writer and one of the best keyboard player in the whole AOR scene. Another reason that a lot of this sound so much like Drive She Said is because several of the tracks are demos of material Mangold wrote for Drive She Said that were never used. It Must Be Love became It’s Gonna Take A Miracle that was on the Drive She Said album Drivin Wheel. Another leftover comes from the material he recorded with Michael Boltonn during his first solo session. The track is called Tonight and it features Michael Bolton on backing vocals and ex-Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick does the guitar work on this one. Overall there is an amazing line-up of guest musicians on this disc. Not only Bolton and Kulick but also musicians such as Al Fritsch, Chuck Bonfante, Tamara Champlin, D.L. Byran, Pepe Castro, Joe Cerisano, Bob Kulick, Randy Jackson to name a few. Fans of Agent (Canada), Steve Perry, Drive She Said and Michael Bolton from The Hunger era or any keyboard driven AOR should check this out. The album came out in 1998 but dont let that fool you because its pure 80s AOR and maybe the use of a lot of old songs helps catch that feeling.
