Na Rasputje (At The Crossroad) was a proto-depressive Russian black metal act that was formed in Moscow back in 1997. The band debuted with their demo Raven in 1998. It was a raw demo recorded at a hostel in Volgograd State University during some cold days in October of 1998. This compilation album features that demo as well as their The Iceflame Of Hyperborea demo (2002) and Blizzard demo (2003). Droning guitar melodies, flat blast beats, screeching vocals, and the non-existence of a bass guitar sounds like something Niklas Kvarforth and his act Shining or This Silencer would be proud of. However this is not just depressive or suicidal black metal even if the overall atmosphere has a very depressive mood. Na Rasputje ads a Russian twist to their music and most of the lyrics deals with nature and Russian themes. This compilation doesnt feature all the early demos from the band as the reason is most likely that the band picked out the songs they thought would appeal most ot the western audience ina hope to try to find fans outside of Russia. So you find traces of Moonblood and early Norwegian black metal in these tunes as well. This is a Russian underground act so you have to be prepared for the poor production and prefer a darker, doomier version of traditional black metal to fully enjoy this piece of dark art.
