Description
Rare 2004 Asgard Musik Records release with gatefold cover. Limited 100 copies
While not quite as memorably great as their 2008 masterpiece–the darkly incandescent Assassins: Black Meddle Part 1–Nachtmystium’s 2004 full-length Demise finds the Chicago heavies nascent blueprinting their black metal meets anti-matter psychedelia sound. The first hint that this is not a standard black metal record is the cheap, fuzzy distortion–more reminiscent of Mudhoney than Darkthrone–that envelops the propulsive rhythms. Opening with a marching mid-tempo pace that seems lifted from Hammerheart-era Bathory. Considering the production and organization, the band wanted to recreate the Depressive Black atmospheres of Xasthur and Leviathan, but the result, while not bad, result in an extremely repetitive album that fail of interest. Rise And Fall hints at the deep space evil to inhabit their next releases while Scorpio Incarnate reveals the last stand of raw black metal in their approach. This album is mainly advised for fans of the band and of the niche, Summoning included.
