Nattvind released one demo and two full length albums under their old moniker Nattvindens Grat but now they have relocated from Finland to Germany and are back with a brand new line-up, a brand new name and a brand new album. As many of you probably know this band used to feature Sami Vänskä and Tuomas Holopainen, both now with the critically acclaimed Nightwish. ‘Subuniverses’ does not have much to do with Nightwish at all though. This album is based more on classic rock’n’roll that will surely appeal to those of you who still love the old legends such as Deep Purple, Rainbow and all the other shining stars of the 70’s. Nostalgia will be felt in the hearts of many people who listen to this album and I am confident enough on the quality of this release to warrant a warm recommendation to all fans of classic hard rock / metal. Nattvind is a band who has a more modern gothic rock sound though but they still perform wonderful music full of passion and dressed in a unique warm melancholic atmosphere. Nattvind (a Swedish word that translates into Nightwind), managed to release a very interesting debut album that’s full of energy and melody. I’m sure that the fans of melodic metal and power metal will appreciate the Nattvind’s ‘Subuniverses’.
