Japans metal scene is rather strange. Only a few significative bands have been able to find a market outside their homecountry. A few of them has been outstanding musically while others has been able to mix musical styles and visions that have made them rather unique. Necrophile is a trio that can been linked into the first category. This is a tight unit with band members that have been in the undergrounds for years. The members has been in early Japanese pioneering bands such as Criminal Christ, Messiah Death, Transgressor and more. Formed in 1987, Necrophile released two demos (in 1988 and 1989), a single-EP, Dissociated Modernity (in 1991) and a split with Singapore’s Black/Death metal band Abhorer (in 1991) and a compilation appearance on the Weird Tales Of Madness Vol. I album. This compilation features most of these recordings as welll as two live tracks recorded in Los Angeles when the band toured with Deceased and Sadistic Intent. Besides being a celebration offering of a time which was a frenzy spiral of excitement, Mementos Of The Misting Woods also shows that something even greater could have been reached if they wouldnt have meet such an early demise. Fans of thrashy death metal should check this out.
