Nektar were originally a group of British musicians living and working together near Heidelberg in Southern Germany during the early to mid seventies. They had massive success both with their albums and their live shows, which were famous for an adventurous mixture of good live-sound and vision, due to the light show covering the band during their live sets with psychedelic motives. The connection between their music and the art of Helmut Wenske, who also designed three of their most successful album covers made them unique and still remembered to this day among those who saw their early shows or know their records. Reformed in 2000, today the band has also German members. Their 2009 album “Fortyfied” features live material recorded during various performances during the 2008 European tour. Nektar combine highly technical arrangements with just the right mix of melody and hooks to produce what I think is simply one of the best live releases ever made. It is a walk through the band’s extensive back catalogue, if like melodic/progressive rock music you will love this band. They are fantastic in concert as this album will prove. Fortyfied combines old favourites like King Of Twilight and Desolation Valley with newer tracks like Where Are You Now which soars and of course their biggest hit Remember The Future Part 2.
