Nine Inch Nails Self Destruct Tour was in support of 1994’s The Downward Spiral and by this time the Trent Reznor’s one-man studio project evolved into a full live band featuring his closest confidants: guitarist Robin Finck, bassist Danny Lohner, drummer Chris Vrenna, and keyboardist James Woolley. The tour would become legendary as Trent recreated the album themes of self-loathing, destruction and nihilism and in the end it took a huge toll on the mental and physical well-being of those involved, with Trent spiralling into depression, panic attacks, violent outbursts onstage, and heavy drug use behind the scenes. The band had started with some warm up shows in March while the real tour started in April. NIN booked The Moore Theatre in Seattle, Washington for four days. Two days of tour rehearsals before starting the tour with two shows at the venu, April 19 and 20th in 1994. The opening act was Type O Negative. This limited album features the show from the 20th (even if the album says 19th) of April and therefore features some of the earliest known performances of Help Me I Am In Hell, Big Man With A Gun and Dead Souls. This tour would skyrocket the bands career as they started out in the clubs and for the band it was larger than life, even at that level. The crowds were frantic. It was so heavy and intense, yet fragile and sombre. After a few shows the noticed that something was going on. All of a sudden they were in theatres, then in arenas, and then we were invited to Woodstock. Instruments, hotel rooms and even personal relationships between touring members were destroyed, dismantled and abused. This tour really took its toll on all involved and afterall Trent was physically exhausted and mentally drained. Here, on this album, in Seattle the band were still on the rise, were hungry and had plenty to prove.
