After several years in the business the band went through some major line-up changes so wihen Hannes Grossmann and Christian Munzer left many fans were afraid Obscura would change for the worse. Luckily their 2016 album, Akroasis, is a great album, melodic, technical riffs, sweeping solos with gratuitous legato and dark, dissonant passages of guitar in addition to some creepy background choirs and orchestrations, used sparingly and for effect. Tempo and time signature changes and a variety of drumming patterns create an intricate tapestry for the work. The fretless bass is prominent in many parts and adds an interesting dimension. It’s quintessentially Obscura! Great songwriting and execution. This album is even more progressive than previous ones
