Obscurity from Malmo was one of those acts that were pushing the extreme metal music in Sweden, but somehow never really became as much cult as many other acts that were around at the same time. They released their first demo Ovationsf Of Death in 1986 and followed it up with Damnations Pride a year later. That second demo showed an improvement in the overall sound, as the production allowed for a much more powerful representation of the band. The songwriting was a bit more varied as well, with the band experimenting with a few things. These two demos can now be found on this compilation album. Obscurity’s material is a bit chaotic never reallly pure death metal, sometimes it sounds like early Venom, primitive as early Onslaught, riffs from Slayer and always as aggressive as early Kreator. Another thing about this band is that they seems to have picked up a lot from American hardcore acts such as DOA and The Desendants. If you have some historical interest in the evolution of extreme metall in Sweden then its time to discover Obscurity.
