Rochester, NY’s Orodruin take their name from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and their sound from Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, and Candlemass’ doom-laden legacies. Beginning in 1998 the band began compiling demos and live performances onto their résumés, culminating in 2003’s Epicurean Mass debut album. The aforementioned demos were compiled into a collection album, and Orodruin were also heard on a split release with Finnish doom gods Reverend Bizarre, but other than that it has been very quite on the Orodruin front and many believing that it was all over. 16 years after their debut album however the band were back and they picked up where they left off in 2003 with Ruins Of Eternity. This is a crushing doom work, making occasional forays into slighly faster territority without ever losing it’s melancholy. If Pagan Altar and Witcfinder General successfully bridged the gap between Doom and NWOBHM, Orodruin carry on that tradition. Ruins Of Eternity is an epic showing time-honored and epic solid doom album with great vocals and music is strongly rooted in 70’s rock in the best possible way. Probably the doom album of 2019.
