Description

Ten-eyed Nemesis is Otargos’s first full-length album, following its amazing E.P “Codex 666: Infernal Legions Strike”, and it is yet another step in the band’s evolution process towards a more personal musical universe. This album, which is musically very dense and compact, explores new concepts and structures. From a lyrical point of view, it is mainly based on John Carpenter’s “The Prince Of Darkness” and on the human, if not Christian, conception of Evil. So you can find many quotes or samples from the film in “T.E.N”, which gives the album more personality and strengthens its atmosphere. In consequence, the lyrics are a mixture of scientific theories and satanic ideology… interesting but sometimes very puzzling. As for the music itself, it is a very exciting album, both brutal and intelligent, moreover it is made up of eight songs, so it is neither too long nor too short. In comparison with the band’s previous releases, “T.E.N” is way more influenced by death metal, and sometimes reminds me of Behemoth’s and Belphegor’s latest offerings, though the black metal touch is still predominant. In fact, this death metal aspect especially concerns the vocals and some heavy drum/bass rhythmic. The rest of the album can be described as very fast and brutal black metal with high screams or death metal growls, slayer-like twisted guitar solos and catchy riffs evoking the grandeur of Evil. Do not expect any melodic touch here, this album will not let you a second to breathe! As a conclusion, I’ll say that I really appreciate this first assault, which is varied and contains great songs like “Ablaze Evil Horizons” or “Havocalypse”, but I certainly prefer its great successor, namely “Kinetic Zero”, which, in my opinion, has the originality “T.E.N” lacks. In fact, you should buy them both, because I think that they are very complementary, “T.E.N” being more brutal and “Kinetic Zero” being more refined and insane. Try it
