Before Overkill became the thrash legends of the 80s that we all know of, they put out the Power In Black demo (in 1983) and their self titled EP before dropping their first record, Feel The Fire. The Power In Black demo features five excellent tracks, some that would later make it onto their debut album, and some that didn’t. Listen to the solo in Death Rider is definitely superior to the others, as it is fast and shreds and displays a sound closest to what Overkill would use in the future. While the demo was rough and punk-infused the following EP showed a band that was more thrash metal while still being raw and under-produced. It kicks off with an early version of the Overkill classic, Rotten To The Core. The Answer was the only track from this EP that was not re-recorded and everything sounds better on the later recordings. But the EP is so raw that it gives the album a primal energy. So in the end it might not be as as essential as Feel The Fire but its worth getting if youre into the early days of American thrash metal and if youre an Overkill fan then its ofcourse a must have. This limited album features the EP, the debut demo as well as bonus live tracks
