Description
Re-press of Panteras debut album. The preeminent metal band of the early to mid-'90s, Pantera put to rest any and all remnants of the '80s metal scene, almost single-handedly demolishing any notion that hair metal, speed metal, power metal, etc were anything but passé. Loathe admitting it, the Texas band had in fact been one of those '80s metal bands, releasing four fairly unsuccessful 80s heavy metal album with a lot of inspiration from the glam era. ‘Metal Magic’ was their debut and the one with the most glam influences but to call it pure glam would be wrong since there are some great occasional speed metal moments for example in ‘I'll Be Alright’ and ‘Metal Magic’ there are however some really cheesy moments and lyrics. It would be much better with albums like ‘Projects From The Jungle’ and ‘Power Metal’. You can hear that its their debut the sound is just too raw and unpolished. The best songs on this album would be Ride My Rocket, Tell Me If You Want It, I'll Be Alright, and Metal Magic. The first two mentioned songs are very catchy and upbeat rockers. Ride My Rocket is pretty up tempo, but doesn't qualify as speed metal, because of the lack of riffs. The last two mentioned tracks, however, are two awesome speed metal songs, that would eventually influence the rest of their career as musicians. Metal Magic is probably the closest to thrash that this album gets, and sounds like total Judas Priest worship though with cheesy lyrics. They would do this speed metal number even better on their next album, Projects In The Jungle. Track listing: 1. Ride My Rocket 2. I'll Be Alright 3. Tell Me If You Want It 4. Latest Lover 5.
