This is the soundtrack by Bill Conti to the Sylvester Stallone directed 1978 drama Paradise Alley. The movie is starring Sylvester Stallone, Anne Archer and Armand Assante and it tells the story of three brothers who fight to escape the seedy clutches of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen. Sylvester Stallone made his directorial debut with this film and he also wrote the script, starred in the film, penned the promotional novel, and even sang the theme song by Bill Conti. Yes thats right. He sings on the main theme “Too Close To Paradise” and he lets his younger brother, Frank Stallone Jr, sing on “Please Be Someone To Me” and “Angel Voice”. These are fun songs indeed and the Bill Conti score is terrific, but the real winners are probably the two tracks by Tom Waits: Annie’s Back in Town and Meet Me In Paradise Alley. Of the two, the first is one of the most beautiful songs Waits has ever penned.

1. Sylvester Stallone -Too Close To Paradise
