Paradox was formed in Würzburg in 1986 by two young musicians, Charly Steinhauer and Axel Blaha. Both of them were founding members of German metal bands Overkill, Venom and Warhead since 1981. Early 1986 they finally changed the band name to Paradox. In July 1986, the band recorded a demo, drawing the attention of Roadrunner Records. A second demo, Mystery, was recorded in the late 1986-early 1987. This 7 track demo includes the classic title track of the first album as well as Mystery, another raging version of Kill That Beast, and ends with a live version of Death, Screaming, And Pain recorded in Jan. ’87. The material is stunningly brilliant and very well produced. The musicianship throughout the disc is just so top-notch it’s hard to believe that Paradox didn’t achieve worldwide superstar status within the thrash/speed metal scenes. Granted Paradox were quite a successful band, but after listening to this demo I’m fully convinced they were in the top-tier of mid-80’s technical thrash and easily one of Germany’s highest quality exports. On top of the original 7 tracks are an additional 6 tracks from a really early rehearsal tape dating back to 1985 and another 3 rehearsal tracks from 1983, before the band were even called Paradox. Among the 1983 tracks we have a cover version of Saxon 747 Strangers In The Night. All these bonus tracks are pure gold for Paradox fans as several of the bonus tracks never made it to the album. Thrash to the death and buy or die!!!!
