Paul Speckmann is a god for many underground death metal addicts. Even if you're not that much of a Master fan, you must think of the guy as part of death metal history. ‘Masterpieces’ is a collection of material by Speckmann's various bands and projects. It begins with two decent tracks from Masters ‘Four More Years Of Terror’ album (‘The Line To Kill’ and ‘He'll Probably Win’) and goes on with 14 songs of prehistoric death metal that can be seen as Speckmann's musical biography, although Krabathor songs were excluded for some strange reason. You'll hear six older Master tracks, tracks from Abomination, Martyr and Deathstrike (two songs each), ‘Remorseless Poison’ from the Speckmann project and ‘Fatso’, a 28 seconds track from the punk project Solutions. The song selection is quite good and guarantees your daily dose of no-sugar, underground death metal fury. However, I don't think Master fanatics will find anything of interest here since they'll already have most of these songs, it's a release for those who wanna know what Paul Speckmann stands for without having to buy twenty different albums.
