Description

Double album on black vinyls with gatefold cover, printed innersleeves and giant poster. Limited to 500 copies

Youd think that a band with 40 years under its belt would have figured out the whole commercialism part of the music business by now. Some of the more enterprising elder statesmen have given up on marketing their music Marky Ramone has his own brand of pasta sauce, and Stephen Pearcy is hawking hot sauce, for Christ sakes. But for Pentagram it took taken them 40 years to hook onto a new medium and thely released their first live dvd. This live show have now been released as a glorious double album with 5 bonus tracks from Burlington in 2014. However the main show here was recorded on the 30th of May 2010, during the Liebling/Victor Griffin reunion dates at Sonar in Baltimore, Maryland, at Maryland Deathfest VIII. The Deathfest headlining slot came shortly after a US tour plagued by bad luck and inept guitarists. Pentagram is in no way Phish and inconceivably ended many shows with lengthy jams. Leibling noodled with a harmonica and crowds exited. But the rekindled partnership with guitarist Griffin, who played on the career-defining Relentless, changed his fortunes. Pentagram plays taut and smooth here and they works their dark magic. Griffin is the key. His tone is inimitable, and his efficient movements add levity to Leiblings unbridled antics. Liebling looks like a homeless savant, his eyes bug out, he nearly performs oral sex on Griffins guitar, and he struts with self-abandon. Hes clearly seizing his chance to play with authority as his 60th birthday looms. The set list is plucked from the highlights of Liebling/Griffin years and a few Pentagram perennials like Forever My Queen, and 20 Buck Spin. At one point during Pentagrams set, crowd surfers appear. Its strange to think that a concert staple didnt exist when Liebling started writing songs in the early 70s. Perhaps the greatest endorsement is the kids in the front row wearing shirts with indecipherable logos banging their heads to Pentagram.
