Persecutor is a Polish blackened thrash metal band from Lodz, formed in 2005. The band debuted with a cdR demo two years later. Their real debut was Wings Of Death that was released on cassette only in 2008 and re-released on cd in 2009. Wings Of Death is raw, very raw, like straight-up garage-level raw. When it comes to this band it fits so well. This 25 minutes album doesnt waste any time. Tracks like Injection and Nuclear Command has riffs on speed. Fast, sloppy, but with a punkish energy that’s hard to hate. You can’t understand half the lyrics, but you feel the hate. Guitar tone’s thin, almost brittle, but it cuts through like a rusty blade. Drums sound like they were recorded with one mic taped to a radiator. And yet-it works. There’s a desperation here that clean production would kill. Army Of Damned and Impious Barbaric Conquest are the standouts. Longer tracks, actual riffs you can latch onto, and a tempo that lets the filth settle in. The bass? Can’t hear it. Probably doesn’t exist. But the rawness is the point. This ain’t for the symphonic black metal fans who want orchestras and lore. This is for dudes who wear bullet belts to shows that don’t exist. You can tell this was made by people who hate more than they want to impress. No solos, no melodies, just attack. The kind of album that smells like sweat and mildew. Then you have a 45 second cover of Nunslaughter’s Jesus Is Doomed. This isnt a masterpiece. But it’s real. And in a world of overproduced garbage, that counts for something.
