Dutch Death Metal legends Pestilence are back. Pestilence released their debut album, “Malleus Maleficarum”, in 1988, and went on to release another 6 ground breaking albums before going on permanent hold. Then in early 2017 Patrick Mameli decided to present the fans their ultimate wet dream, an old school set list for 2018. Pestilence had extremely strong material ready and recorded a full new album titled “Hadeon” in Spacelab Studios in Germany in the Summer of 2017. Hadeon is the album were Patrick Mameli retakes his throne as one of the founding fathers of technical melodic death metal. This is Pestilence doing what they do best: creating complex, spacey, pulverizing death metal with solid hooks and excellent songwriting. The album sounds like a mix of two of my favourite Pestilence records, Testimony Of The Ancients and Spheres. The riffs are a mix of thrashy and spacey, there’s technicality and brutality, the vocals are controlled. It has a lot of energy, great riffs, memorable moments, and there isn’t a single song I’m not enthusiastic about. Favorite track is Astral Projection, which is very odd and features the coolest metal robot voice since the heyday of Cynic. Welcome back to the fold, Pestilence!
