Pretty Boy Floyd was one of the very last of the 80s Hair bands to make an impression on the lives of European Rock fans as the new decade dawned, the group even being featured on the cover of the December 16, 1989 issue of ‘Kerrang!’ The self-styled ‘Dirty Glam’ Pretty Boy Floyd had arrived towards the end of the 80s with a promising demo, a flamboyant stage show and tons of make-up. The band’s debut album for MCA was produced by the then in demand Howard Benson. Titled Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz, the opus was recorded in Philadelphia and heavily endeared musically by early Motley Crue. So brazen were Pretty Boy Floyd of their influence the band covered Motley Crues Toast Of The Town on the B-side to the Rock n Roll (Is Gonna Set The Night On Fire) single. The band never took of due to two support slots tour were cancelled and then they embroiled in a row over the copyright to the name after objections from the Canadian Pretty Boy Floyd who had actually released their album first. All this lead to the band not releasing anything for almost ten years and when their follow up, the five track EP entitled A Tale Of Sex, Designer Drugs, And The Death of Rock n Roll, finally were released then the music world was a whole different place. Set The Night On Fire is a glamorously trashy compilation that includes some of the raunchiest highlights from the band’s career including Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz, Set The Nite On Fire and their recent cover of Kiss’s Shout It Out Loud.
