Description
This is the beginning of Primordial, one of the most talented bands of all time. This demo is over 22 minutes long with immaculate production; every instrument can be easily heard. The music is really heavy and not insanely fast as most of the black metal bands, Primordial was different from the start, this is different black metal, the bass is really prominent, some parts of the song heavily consist of bass, the music is catchy and groovy to an extent because of the bass. The vocals are typical black metal shrieks full of intensity. There are some doom metal elements here but not as much as in their future releases, just as you think that what else can be here then the clean vocals appear for a while in few of the songs and there’s a little guitar solo in ‘The Darkest Flame’ as well but it stays in the background. The guitar riffs are interesting as they’re not standard black metal riffs as well as the drumming because it sometimes become catchy but most of time it’s average extreme metal drumming. Vocals are mostly harsh but are decipherable, the lyrics however are interesting, and they are about paganism, romance, depression and nature. Overall these four songs can easily be cherished by not only black metal fans but also by fans of suicidal, black doom and heavy metal fans. There are no celtic / folk elements in this demo whatsoever. This is a good effort but their later albums are far superior to this demo.
