Description

‘Sailing The Seas Of Cheese’ is the second album and major-label debut by Primus, released on May 14, 1991. This was Primus breakthrough album, spawning singles ‘Jerry Was A Race Car Driver’ and ‘Tommy The Cat’, and fan favorites such as ‘Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers’ and ‘American Life’ among others. This album displays more funk influence than its predecessor, ‘Frizzle Fry’, and is somewhat more dissonant. It is widely considered to be the band's most fun album, since it has many upbeat songs. However, in terms of lyrical content, it can also be viewed as Primus's most provocative album. It stresses a few world and political issues, such as a negative depiction of military life (Sgt. Baker), awareness of people living in poverty (American Life), being an outcast (Eleven), and the use of crystal meth amongst blue-collar workers (Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers), although some argue the song is actually about the first Bush administration. Sailing the Seas of Cheese reached Gold status as of the end of 1991, and sales have since increased, as the album is now certified platinum. Track listing: 1. Seas Of Cheese 2. Here Come The Bastards 3. Sgt. Baker 4. American Life 5. Jerry Was A Race Car Driver 6. Eleven 7. Is It Luck? 8. Grandad's Little Ditty 9. Tommy The Cat 10. Sathington Waltz 11.
