Description
American region 1 release
Released back when Prince was recording as the Artist, Rave Un2 The Year 2000 is his first full-length live video since 1987’s Sign Of Times. As such, it is essential to die-hard Prince fans who universally agree that he is best live. In addition to the concert, the dvd contains a short documentary featuring interviews with participants, a “Freedom Newz” statement by Prince about artistic freedom, and bonus songs featuring George Clinton, Cathy Jensen, Jimmy Russell, Larry Graham, and NPG. The main thrust of Rave Un2 The Year 2000 is the presentation of the entire 21-song pay-per-view Prince broadcast on the last night of the millennium. The sound is mixed in DTS surround and Dolby. The night is basically one big jam with Prince backed up by Maceo Parker and members of Sly and The Family Stone, and later being a backup singer himself on “Everyday People.” A generous vibe runs through the concert as Prince gives Lenny Kravitz a chance to play his hit cover, “American Woman,” and “Fly Away,” as well as the Time to play their songs “Jungle Love” and “The Bird.” The concert was recorded at Paisley Park Studio in Minneapolis, and includes the songs “Nothing Compares 2 U,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Raspberry Beret,” and, of course, “1999.” If there was such a thing as a must-see concert the night of December 31, 1999, it was Prince. Some fans might find his preaching a bit heavy at times, but that does accurately reflect his current direction as a person and an artist. A rich, all-star jam that will please the fans. Those curious to see what the hoopla is all about will also find this enjoyable due to its high number of popular hits, especially “1999.”
