Description
Polish pressed music cassette. Clear cassette with digi label. With 5 bonus tracks
Poland is probably the country that had the most record labels in the world that only released cassettes. But even though there were lots of labels the market was still small as they only printed these for their own market inside of Poland. And a label in one town maybe lacked the distribution for another town and so on. A Warzaw or Krakow label might print more copies of a tape then labels from a smaller town. So even if there are thousands of releases you will notice how rare some are if you start to try to list the catalogue number of one particular label. Some cassettes just rarely shows up. This label called Digi Music was based in Polands fifth largest city, Poznan (at the Frezhowa Street 12 /Ul Frezjowa 12). In such a large town you would think that this was a large label. However they seemed to have released just less than 400 tapes between 1990 and 1994 and the amount of copies of each tapes seems to be much less than labels like MG Records and Takt Music as they dont circulate as often as some other labels. In 1994 the Polish cassette market died over night due to a new Polish government rule.
Pungent Stench debut album, For God Your Soul For Me Your Flesh, finds the band at its most perverse; from the extremely disturbing cover art to the music’s lyrics, this is the sort of stuff that is downright corruptive! Beneath all of these shocking attributes — not to mention some brutal grindcore-like death metal and absolutely crazed growling — one can only hope that the group isn’t serious and that this is poorly (or perfectly) executed satire. Of course, the problem lies in the fact that the group doesn’t give many clear-cut signs of satire, making it questionable whether or not it truly is demented — if so, the most disturbing part of the album is the thought that these people exist in the world! So, like Cannibal Corpse and early Carcass, Pungent Stench seems focused on challenging the listener with harsh perversities that tend to centre mostly on gore and sex. For many fans of this style of music, the aforementioned attributes are enough to make this a noteworthy release, but those strictly interested in songwriting might not be as impressed. On the group’s succeeding albums, Been Caught Buttering and Club Mondo Bizarre, Pungent Stench makes its satire a little more clear and enjoyable and also focuses more on songwriting than sheer brutality, making this album inferior in comparison, even if it is the band’s most extreme. This cassette version comes with 5 bonus tracks taken from the 1989 split album with Disharmonic Orchestra
