Somewhere deep in the Danish underground has Pustulation and Ligfaerd joined forces and through Ancient Darkness Productions released this split album. Pustulation from Aalborg plays death metal with black metal elements. It is mostly controlled by the old school riffs that hold a darker melody that works out really well. Pustulation keeps their music in a nice pace and don’t get to extreme with blastbeats, double pedal or wild guitar work but this doesn’t mean its boring in any way. Nyarlathotep and the title track Into The Abyss are two fine death metal tracks in a raw mood. The Ligfaerd side opens with a short and sweet intro before all hell breaks loose with Mod Afgrundens Dyb (towards the deep of the abyss). This is rough and unforgiving black metal with the cold atmosphere in focus. Ligfaerd is band that without doubt loves many of the ancient black metal heroes of the north and their final tracks At The Foot Of Gallows Hill shows us that Denmark do have some exciting black metal bands. If you don’t know about Pustulation or Ligfaerd then this is a great opportunity to do something about the matter. Both bands have their moments on this album
