Vhs number two of the three-part Magic Years documentary, titled Live Killers In The Making, is definitely the best of the bunch. As its title says, the video traces the band’s development as one of rock’s greatest live acts of all time, from Queen’s inaugural tour of Japan in 1974 up until their appearance as headliners at 1985’s Rock in Rio festival (in front of 325,000 fans). The aforementioned early tour of Japan resembles Beatlemania, as the band is constantly being greeted and followed by well wishers, while their concerts are full of loud shrieks from the female fans. Also included is footage from a 1977 show at England’s Earl’s Court (a great but brief medley of rock n roll standards is featured), and a 1979 Parisian concert in which Freddie Mercury trashes the band’s equipment. You’ll also find an early performance of their anthem We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions during the News Of The World Tour in Houston, the discofied Staying Power recorded at an open-air gig at Milton Keynes in 1982, and Radio Ga Ga from Australia in 1984. Featured throughout are interview clips with such famous peers as Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, David Bowie, and Ringo Starr.
