Description

Quiet Riot is a rock n roll phenomenon. Widely known as the first heavy metal band to top the US pop charts, the Los Angeles quartet became a global sensation thanks to their monstrous smash hit 1983 album, Metal Health. That album topped the Billboard album charts for several months and the follow up album, Condition Critical went double platinum. The band has continued to record and tour throughout their 30 + year history. Jumping forward to the fall of 2019 and the bands studio, titled Hollywood Cowboys, are released. After the recording the vocalist James Durbin departed and during the recording, long-time drummer Frankie Banali was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, taking him off the road with Quiet Riot but not stopping him from finishing the recording. Stylistically, most of the album will bring to mind more recent Quiet Riot albums such as Rehab and the most recent one before this, titled Road Rage. Unlike some Quiet Riot albums, there are no cover songs here. It is worth noting the first seven songs on the album all had outside songwriters enlisted to write the lyrics. However these writers are musicians Jacob Bunton, Neil Turbin and August Young, who all have close ties to one or more of the Quiet Riot band members. Thus they know who and what Quiet Riot is and this helped those songs in the end. As a result, Hollywood Cowboys goes down as an energetic, inspired and thoughtful release that is essential for the modern day Quiet Riot fan.
